A Quarterly Spiritual Check-Up

I know it may be hard to believe, but we’re already into the month of April. So as we sit here at the 2019 quarter pole, let us consider 10 questions.

Am I taking advantage of what the congregation has to offer (Heb. 10:24-25)? Come to services, where the Bible is taught. We partake of the Lord’s Supper. We sing praises and hymns. You get to connect with God’s people. Attend Bible class. Mark your calendars for our gospel meetings April 26-28 and Oct. 4-6. If I decide not to attend, I miss out on all the great things that happen in the assemblies of the Lord’s church.

What are my daily spiritual habits — if any (Acts 17:11)? Are you a spiritual “gym rat”? Have you found a daily Bible reading program that fits you, and have you stuck with it? Find ways to plug a daily Bible reading into your family life. Pray together. Read together.

Am I praying? Start every day with a prayer (Mark 1:35). Pray for the congregation. Pray for the Bible class teachers. Pray for our upcoming gospel meeting. Pray for growth. Pray for your family.

Am I practicing hospitality (Rom. 12:13; I Pet. 4:9)? Have you opened up your home yet this year? Get to know the brethren here. Find ways to get your family busy spiritually.

Am I doing, or do I plan to do, one thing I’ve never done before? Go outside your comfort zone. God has called us to walk the hard road.

Am I seeking what I can give, not get? Seek what you can give to the Lord and to others: time, energy, shoulder to cry on, listening ear, wisdom, prayer, hospitality, encouragement.

Am I contributing to the work of the local church? Am I carrying my own load? I am needed just as much as anyone else (I Cor. 12:18). If every part does its share (Eph. 4:16), a church will reach its fullest potential.

Am I doing my part to maintain unity (Eph. 4:1-3)? If the unity that God wants is going to exist and be maintained, then I’ve got to play a role in that. There must be a sense of responsibility toward one another.

Am I being held accountable? How easily, when we’re on our own, we slip into ruts. We can’t do life by ourselves.

Am I bearing the burdens of others (Gal. 6:2)? How much time am I spending getting to know people? We would then be better prepared for the moment they may need help in bearing their burdens.
